The SF Giants and Diamondbacks meet for the final time this year, setting up a critical matchup in the final weeks of the season. The Giants, two games back in the Wild Card with three teams to leap, are running out of time to force their way into the playoff conversation.

Somehow, though, the Giants continue to get opportunities to get back into the thick of it, and this series is no exception. The Diamondbacks are only a half-game up on the Chicago Cubs, holding the second and third Wild Card slots, respectively. If the Giants can take this two-game series, they very well might find themselves holding a Wild Card position going into this weekend.

If not, though, the Giants will find themselves in a tremendously difficult position. The Cubs already have a tiebreaker over San Francisco, which narrows the path further. And at this point, every loss is a critical mistake for a team that's merely two games above .500. For most of the year, the Giants simply have not been good enough to take care of the business presented to them. Let's see if that changes.
