Series Preview: SF Giants @ Dodgers - abandon hope all ye who enter here

The SF Giants have been gut-punched, snakebit, and thrown around by their NL West rivals this month. A four-game series against the Dodgers just promises more.

The SF Giants have won 1 road game this month. Coincidentally, all of those road games came against either divisional rivals or direct Wild Card competitors. That does a lot to explain why, at 76-76 and three back with ten games to play, this weekend's four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers seems less of an opportunity and more of a formality.

The Giants will send Kyle Harrison to the dish to start Friday's game, which offers some small measure of relief after his demotion last weekend. Still, if the relief comes from a "play the kids" perspective, it's a small one. With just a week and a half left to go in the season (barring a not-so-minor miracle), there's just not enough time for the traditional "September call-ups" to get any real look in the season. What development San Francisco has been waiting for has already happened, and they'll have to be satisfied with that.
