Guardians Showing Resilience Early In Season

The Cleveland Guardians come back from being down five runs two nights in a row.

There’s been a growing trend with Cleveland Guardians teams over the last few seasons. This would be their resilient effort no matter where they stand in a game. The last two nights against the Chicago White Sox have summed up this mindset perfectly.

On Tuesday, the Guardians saw themselves in a five-run deficit before they had a chance to swing the bats. Instead of giving up with so much game left, they chipped away and eventually tied it up late. The White Sox still won the game, but Cleveland didn't make it easy on them.

In the very next game, the Guardians found themselves in an identical situation. Down five with their starting pitcher searching for the zone. Cleveland yet again climbed out of that hole and won the game in extra innings.

“It makes me feel great, but it should pump the boys up,” said manager Stephen Vogt. “Two nights in a row, getting behind five runs early and fighting back, fighting back and we were able to finish this one off. Credit to the fight of this team and the bullpen, just standing strong and doing their job. These guys are playing really, really well and they’re playing for each other right now. I love it.”

Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt congratulates José Ramírez (11) after his two-run homer during the fifth inning of the Cleveland Guardians’ home opener against the Chicago White Sox, Monday, April 8, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

“We’re sticking to a plan and running through it. It doesn’t matter what’s going on on the other side of the bases. We can control what we can control, put some good swings, and good things happen,” said Steven Kwan after Wednesday's walk-off win. “It’s affirming we can stick to a plan and run with it. There’s no panic in the dugout either which is really nice. It's once cohesive unit right now.”

With the group the Guardians have, fans should never feel like their out of it because the team clearly never feels that way either.
