The Cleveland Guardians have been riddled with injuries over the last few weeks. The injury bug started with just the pitchers but has now crept into the position players with Josh Naylor, Tyler Freeman, and now David Fry on the IL.

Cleveland decided that this was a perfect time to bring a veteran into the clubhouse and picked up Roman Laureano off waivers after he was waived by the Oakland Athletics.

He immediately made an impact with his new team as he ripped a ground ball just over third base that rolled all the way to the left-field corner. This allowed Oscar Gonzalez to score all the way from first and Laureano to jog into second base with a standing double.

This gave the Guardians an early 1-0 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of their series.

Laureano has been a solid hitter during his career but took a step back in 2023. He had a slash line of .217/.283/.655 this season on a struggling A's team. He even admitted before his Guardians debut that playing on a team that was losing was affecting his play.
