Steven Kwan Among MLB Leaders In This Stat To Start Season, Guardians News

Cleveland Guardians' Steven Kwan has the second most hits in MLB through the first week of the 2024 season.

There aren’t many offenses in baseball that have gotten off to as hot of a start as the Cleveland Guardians. They are scoring runs, hitting with runners in scoring position, and overall are just getting on base. One player at the top of the lineup leading the charge and that’s Steven Kwan.

Cleveland’s leadoff hitter currently has a slash line of .385/.400/.513 through the first eight games and 39 at-bats to start the season. With that, his 15 hits are the most in the American League and second in MLB as of Friday (April 5) morning.

For reference, LAD’s Mookie Betts leads the way with 16. The other players right behind Kwan include LAD’s Will Smith (13), SD’s Luis Campusano (12), HOU’s Yainer Diaz (12), and LAD’s Freddie Freeman (12).

The Guardians took down the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon in a game that Kwan was 3-for-5 in. He was the one who got the team’s first hit off Pablo Lopez after the Twins starter pitched three perfect innings to open the game.

Kwan said that his approach was to, “Be aggressive, spoil some pitches, see what happens, and put the ball in play.” That game plan has clearly helped Kwan get off to this hot start.

Manager Stephen Vogt emphasized how important Kwan is after the win saying, “What Kwan means to the top of this lineup and to our team in general, you can’t say enough about," said Vogt “He got us going today just like he has all year so far.”
