David Peterson Wins Spot in New York Mets' Rotation
The Mets' starting rotation is set for the beginning of the regular season.
Left-hander David Peterson has won a spot in the rotation and will pitch the second game of the series against the Miami Marlins this weekend.
Peterson replaces Jose Quintana, who is out until at least July after undergoing rib surgery. Like Quintana, Peterson will be the lone lefty in the rotation.
The Mets' rotation now includes Peterson, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Kodai Senga and Carlos Carrasco.
Last season, Peterson made 19 starts (28 appearances) for the Mets and went 7-5 with a 3.83 ERA.
The 27-year-old has had an excellent spring, tossing 12 shutout innings and striking out 13 batters with a 0.75 WHIP.
As for Tylor Megill, who Peterson beat out, he will start on Opening Day for Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
Last year, he started for the Mets on Opening Day due to injuries in the rotation.
Megill will be stretched out as a starter in Triple-A as rotation depth this season.
