Mets Sign Right-Hander Dylan Bundy to Minor League Deal

Bundy started 29 games for the Minnesota Twins during the 2022 season.

The New York Mets added to their pitching depth on Saturday as they agreed to a minor league deal with veteran righty Dylan Bundy.

Bundy, 30, spent the 2022 season with the Minnesota Twins and logged a 4.89 ERA, 4.66 FIP, 4.77 xFIP and was worth 0.7 fWAR in 140 innings pitched.

The Oklahoma native became a free agent after the season after the Twins declined their club option on him at the end of the year.

Originally selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2011 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles, Bundy never quite developed into a top line starting pitcher, but has had some solid seasons along the way.

Bundy underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013, several months after making his MLB debut.

It took until 2016 for Bundy to make it back to the majors after recovering from Tommy John and also dealing with calcification in the back of his shoulder.

Overall, Bundy pitched with the Orioles through 2019 and spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels before latching on with the Twins last year.

In the short term, Bundy will likely head to extended Spring Training, after which he will presumably join Triple-A Syracuse, though with how volatile pitching can be, we should see him in Queens at some point this year.

For Bundy, joining the Mets organization comes with some familiarity, as he played for current New York manager Buck Showalter in Baltimore. Additionally, current Mets general manager Billy Eppler was with the Angels when Bundy played there.
