The New York Mets certainly are in an interesting spot right now.

New York has the highest payroll in all of baseball but has underachieved so far this season. The Mets still have 64 games left in the regular season and could make up some ground in the standings, but at this point, it's looking more and more like New York will be on the outside looking in when the postseason comes around.

Other clubs in the same situation as the Mets likely would be considering becoming sellers ahead of the trade deadline but New York has such a high payroll that it may be impossible for the club. The Mets could make a few smaller moves, but there likely won't be a firesale coming to New York any time soon.

One player who could be on the move and reportedly is the Met's best trade piece is closer David Robertson, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"As we’ve noted in this space a few times already, there’s no sense selling since the Mets lack the kind of players that make a sale worthwhile," Heyman said. "The only tradeable player who has “excess value” is David Robertson, and a 38-year-old reliever — even a great one — isn’t going to exactly bring back a haul."

Robertson has found his name in trade rumors at points this season and a move certainly makes sense. The 38-year-old is having an impressive season and has compiled a 2.08 ERA in 39 appearances, but will be a free agent at the end of the 2023 campaign. Robertson could bring a prospect or two back for the Mets. The trade deadline is set to pass in under two weeks and the Mets are sure to be extremely busy.
