Ace on the move?

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, the San Francisco Giants are among the teams evaluating New York Mets starter Justin Verlander ahead of the trade deadline.

While trading Verlander is a potential option for the Mets if they sell at the deadline, the future Hall of Famer would have to waive his no-trade clause.

The other road block in trading Verlander is the money he is owed. The righty is playing on a two-year, $86.7 million deal with a vesting option for 2025.

At this point, the Mets do not appear interested in trading Verlander or expensive co-ace Max Scherzer.

Regardless, teams are still evaluating Verlander ahead of the deadline in case the Mets decide to deal him and he waives his no-trade clause.

Verlander is coming off his best outing of the season, in which he went eight innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out seven batters.

On the year, Verlander is 4-5 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 70 strikeouts across 83 innings.

Verlander is also coming off a season with the Houston Astros, where he won the third Cy Young Award of his career.

Despite a slow start to the season, Verlander could certainly help out a contender should he be traded. The Mets would also likely get a nice package of prospects back in return.
