Mets Reportedly Among Favorites To Sign Yankees Superstar Next Offseason

New York could end up landing one of the best players in baseball next offseason

The New York Mets may not have made a major splash this offseason, but that doesn't mean the club is done spending big.

New York has spent massively since Steve Cohen but didn't make any massive swings this offseason after an underwhelming 2023 campaign. The Mets are in a better spot than they were in, though.

The Mets focused on cheaper deals for players with high upside and are in a better place on paper as Spring Training kicks off.

While the 2024 season hasn't even started yet, there already has been speculation about who the club could sign next offseason. There's sure to be some intriguing free agents available and the top one arguably will be New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto.

It's clear that he's going to be testing free agency and the Mets already are seen by some to be one of the favorites to sign Soto, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Mets are not only expected to strongly pursue but could be among the favorites for outfielder Juan Soto when he’s a free agent next winter," Nightengale said.

Soto would be a perfect addition to the Mets. New York has plenty of money to spend and certainly could afford him. The 25-year-old is one of the best players in baseball and still is very young.

He's going to be spending the 2023 campaign with the Yankees but there's certainly a chance he leaves them in free agency. Don't be surprised if the Mets at least get involved in the sweepstakes.
