Mets Reportedly Not Discussing Blockbuster Trade For Superstar Pitcher Despite Rumors
The New York Mets could use another big addition this offseason, but it doesn't sound like they are going to do so through a major trade.
New York seems content with its current starting rotation but some have speculated that the club was interested in completing a major trade with the Chicago White Sox for ace Dylan Cease.
Rumors have been swirling, but New York reportedly isn't discussing a move, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.
"Stop the rumors now," Nightengale said. "The New York Mets are not involved in trade talks with the Chicago White Sox. Why in the world would they give up prized prospects when they’re gearing up for 2025."
Cease would be a major pickup for the Mets, but landing him likely doesn't fit the club's timeline at this point. New York has improved the club this offseason but doesn't seem like a World Series contender at this point.
It has been speculated that the Mets were planning to go all in on the 2025 campaign rather than 2024. Landing Cease would give the Mets a top-of-the-rotation starter, but he's only under contract for the next two seasons and would cost New York at least one or two top prospects.
New York is looking to build a perennial World Series contender and will need its top prospects to make the jump to the big leagues. The Mets don't seem in line to trade their future for short-term gain.
Cease would be a solid addition to the rotation, but it doesn't sound like a trade is coming.
