Replacing a veteran infielder with another veteran infielder.

After trading Eduardo Escobar to the Los Angeles Angels, the New York Mets called up Danny Mendick to take his place on the roster.

Mendick is starting at third base and batting ninth in the lineup for the Mets in their Saturday afternoon game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The Mets traded Escobar to the Angels on Friday night in exchange for minor league pitchers Coleman Crow and Landon Marceaux.

Crow was the No. 17 ranked prospect in the Angels' system and had a 1.88 ERA in Double-A this season. Marceaux was the No. 20 ranked prospect for the Angels.

As for Mendick, after tearing his ACL last year, he signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Mets back in December. He was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the 2023 season.

In 68 games in the minor leagues this season, Mendick is slashing .264/.356/.401 with a .757 OPS, eight home runs and 35 RBIs.

The Mets are hoping that Mendick can take Escobar's job as a super utility man, given he has the ability to play second base and third base.

Mendick has played his entire career with the Chicago White Sox, logging 151 games, a 1.2 bWAR, .251 batting average, .309 on-base percentage and a .675 OPS.
