The Baltimore Orioles front office showed why they traded for Corbin Burnes on Opening Day as their new ace threw 6.0 innings, allowing one earned run on one hit with 11 strikeouts. Burnes gave up a home run to Mike Trout in the top of the 1st but bounced back well and put the Orioles in a prime position to win.

Entering the season, Baltimore’s biggest focus was adding an ace-caliber pitcher. The front office did just that with Burnes, but there’s still a need for more. Whether the front office feels the same way or not is one thing, but the Orioles can certainly get better on the mound.

Of the names that could be on the trade market, Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber continues to be a name flirted in rumors.

Matt Snyder of CBS Sports believes that if Bieber is traded, he’ll land with Baltimore.

“I'll go Orioles for Bieber after the trade deadline. Mike Elias already swung a deal for a rental pitcher in Corbin Burnes and showed that he could deal from prospect depth without touching the highest levels of his prospects in order to do so.“

Snyder believes this deal will happen after the trade deadline, adding another arm to give the Orioles an even better chance of locking up the American League East and winning in the postseason.

A 1-2 punch of Bieber and Burnes would arguably be the best in baseball, something no American League team would want to face in the postseason.

Bieber impressed in his first outing for the Guardians, striking out 11 in 6.0 innings pitched against the Oakland Athletics on Opening Day.
