Don't Panic Over Philadelphia Phillies' Lackluster Offseason Just Yet

The Philadelphia Phillies could still have more moves coming before the end of the offseason.

It has been an incredibly quiet offseason for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Very little movement. No big splashy signings. Hardly any buzz.

Bizarre?

Maybe a little bit.

But that doesn’t mean it will stay this way.

With managing partner John Middleton and President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski in charge, you can expect the Phillies to be active at some point before spring training.

Following a run to the World Series and then coming within one victory of advancing to another Fall Classic, Philadelphia showed how close they are to winning a championship.

Middleton and Dombrowski will spend money. And they have spent money over these last two seasons.

The Phillies did re-sign Aaron Nola, which was mildly surprising since they were so far apart on contract demands a year ago.

They took a shot and reportedly made a lucrative offer to Japanese standout pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto before losing him to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Clearly, they still need depth with starting pitching, the bullpen and the bench.

When the 2024 season gets underway, there certainly will be new faces.

Standing pat would be shocking.

The Phillies are a championship-caliber team. But they still have flaws like every other team. This offseason presents a great opportunity to address the issues that have caused them to come up short of their ultimate goal the past two seasons.

It’s early January, which means there should be no panic by the fanatical fan base.

Now, if the season starts in March with no further roster tweaks then it will be time to re-evaluate the Phillies’ status.

As of now, just breathe.
