The Philadelphia Phillies got off to a great start but couldn’t finish the job on Opening Day against the Atlanta Braves.
Now, the Phillies (0-1) prepare to host the Braves for Game 2 of their three-game series, which started on Friday after the originally-scheduled game on Thursday was pushed back a day due to weather.
The Phillies will hope their bullpen can bounce back.
Phillies starter Zack Wheeler was terrific in the opener, giving up five hits and no runs in six innings. He struck out five and walked none. When he left the game he handed his bullpen a 2-0 lead.
It didn’t go well. Against five Phillies relievers the Braves clobbered them for nine runs, all without a home run.
Philadelphia outfielder Brandon Marsh was the only player in the game to hit a home run, a two-run shot in the fifth to open the game’s scoring.
