Super Bowl QB Patrick Mahomes' Dad, Former Texas Rangers Pitcher Arrested For Sixth DWI In Texas

Pat Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and a Texas Rangers pitcher in 2001, has been arrested for DWI for at least the sixth time, according to reports.

Former Texas Rangers pitcher Pat Mahomes, the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested by Tyler police Saturday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Mahomes Sr., who is 53, was released Sunday on $10,000 bond.

According to reports, records indicate it's at least the sixth time Mahomes has been charged with driving under the infuence. Mahomes has been booked 11 times since 2009, according to CNN. 

Mahomes Sr. was arrested twice for DWI in 2012 and twice more in 2018, according to Us Weekly. He was jailed after his fifth arrest in March 2019 and had a 40-day sentence that included a weekend work-release program.

“To compete at the highest level is something that is rare and very special,” Mahomes Sr. recently told CNN. “For him to have the amount of success that he’s had this early on in his career is just surreal.”

Mahomes Sr. played 11 seasons in the major leagues, including one season with the Rangers in 2001. He was 7-6 with a 5.70 ERA in 56 games, including four starts for Texas. He was drafted in the sxith round by the Minnesota Twins in 1988 out of Lindale High School, a town about 14 miles northwest of Tyler in East Texas. 

Mahomes Sr. also played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. His last season in the majors was 2003, but he spent four more seasons in the minors before retiring after the 2007 season
