Longtime MLB Pitcher Pat Mahomes Sr., Father of Kansas City Chiefs QB, Arrested For DWI

Former Twins, Red Sox and Mets pitcher Pat Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated, one week before his son's Kansas City Chiefs played in the Super Bowl.

Longtime MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Texas on Saturday, according to online booking records. TMZ was first to report the news.

Mahomes is the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, who is seven days away from facing off against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

This is at least the third time that the elder Mahomes has received a DWI charge, per TMZ and The New York Post. Mahomes served 40 days in jail over weekends in 2019 and 2020 after being charged for a DWI in 2018.

It remains to be seen if Mahomes will be able to make it to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl.

Mahomes was a sixth round pick in the 1988 MLB Draft, and he made his big league debut with the Minnesota Twins in 1991. He spent fours years in Minneapolis before getting traded to the Boston Red Sox, where he spent the next season-and-a-half.

After getting released by the Red Sox, Mahomes played the 1999 and 2000 seasons with the New York Mets. Mahomes made additional appearances with the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, then spent the rest of his playing days in the minor leagues before retiring in 2009.

Mahomes went 42-39 over the course of his 11-year MLB career, posting a 5.47 ERA, 1.594 WHIP and 0.1 WAR. Across his 15 seasons in the minors, Mahomes went 102-75 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.373 WHIP.

Mahomes made headlines earlier in the NFL playoffs when he told WFAN in New York that he did not want to sit in the same box as pop star Taylor Swift and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce during the AFC Championship Game.

A few weeks earlier, prosecutors dropped three felony charges against Mahomes' second son, Jackson, who was accused of grabbing a woman and kissing her against her will. The incident was caught on security cameras, and Jackson Mahomes still faces a fourth charge of misdemeanor battery.
