Texas Rangers Split Spring Training Games with White Sox, Giants

The Texas Rangers played their final split-squad games of spring training as Opening Day is just a week away.

The Texas Rangers beat the Chicago White Sox and lost to the San Francisco Giants in split-squad games on Wednesday. Here’s a breakdown of both games.

Rangers 2, Chicago White Sox 0 (SS); San Francisco 4, Rangers 0 (SS)

Records: Chicago White Sox (10-10-2), San Francisco (11-12-1), Rangers (12-13-1).

Winning pitchers: Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, TEX); Ross Stripling (1-1, SF)

Losing pitchers: Mike Clevinger (0-1, CWS); Jon Gray (2-1, TEX)

Saves: José Leclerc (3, TEX).

Rangers at the plate: Against the White Sox, Clint Frazier hit his second spring home run, a solo shot in the second inning, giving the Rangers the lead for good. Texas managed just four hits in the game. Frazier was at the plate for the other Rangers run, as Jax Biggers scored on a White Sox balk.

Against San Francisco, Texas had 10 hits but failed to score a run. Corey Seager extended his hitting streak to 13 games, Marcus Semien and Jonan Heim each had two hits. But the Rangers stranded eight and were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Rangers on the mound: In the Rangers’ 2-0 win over the White Sox, Nathan Eovaldi threw five shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out one. A bullpen featuring Taylor Hearn, Jonathan Hernández, Will Smith and José Leclerc combined for four innings of shutout, hitless baseball.

Against San Francisco, starter Jon Gray took the brunt of the Giants’ offense, giving up four hits and three runs (all unearned) in 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two. Texas only gave up seven hits but they committed three errors in the field.

On Thursday: The Rangers host Oakland in a game that will be a prime-time contest for Rangers fans in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, with the game broadcast on Bally’s Sports Southwest and broadcast on radio on 105.3 The Fan.
