Red Sox Fans Reportedly Should Not Count On Reunion With Star Hurler
The Boston Red Sox's pitching struggles have spilled into the offseason and one insider suggests that their search just got tougher.
One of the top storylines for the Red Sox last season was their incredibly thin pitching staff, which led to pitching depth becoming a top priority for the club. So far this offseason, we've heard rumblings of numerous stars linked to peak Boston's interest -- but one star is rumored to no longer be an option.
"As of right now, I don't think (Eduardo Rodriguez) is a strong possibility there (Boston)." FanSided's Robert Murray said on The Baseball Insiders podcast on Monday. "Things could change but, I don't think E-Rod is going to end up in Boston"
Rodriguez had a 3.30 ERA with a 143-to-48 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .227 batting average against and 1.15 WHIP in 152 2/3 innings pitched across 26 games for the Detroit Tigers last season.
Though there are still plenty of free agents available, potentially being out of the running for any starter is bad news for Boston.
Regardless of whether or not Rodriguez is truly not going to be an option for the Red Sox, the club will have to act fast in free agency to acquire some frontline pitching.
