Mariners Pursuing Rumored Yankees Trade Target In Possible Blockbuster

It sounds like the Mariners are attempting to land a rumored Yankees target

The New York Yankees have been mentioned in a wide range of rumors this offseason.

New York clearly is going all in on the 2024 season. The Yankees took a massive chance and landed superstar slugger Juan Soto. He will be a free agent at the end of the season, but New York brought him.

The Yankees have made some other intriguing moves including signing Marcus Stroman to help the rotation. New York has been linked to multiple other starters as well, including Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease.

Cease has been in trade rumors all offseason and New York has been mentioned as a fit on numerous occasions.

It's unclear if he will be dealt, but one other club that is attempting to land the young ace is the Seattle Mariners, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Seattle Mariners have quietly entered trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for ace Dylan Cease, with the White Sox seeking a package centered around young starters Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo," Nightengale said. "If the Mariners meet the White Sox’s steep asking price, they would have one of the most powerful starting rotations in baseball with Luis Castillo, Cease, Logan Gilbert, and George Kirby.

"If the White Sox can’t complete a trade with the Mariners, they are expected to open the season with Cease. They could revisit trade talks with teams towards the July 30 trade deadline or wait to see if a team becomes desperate with a sudden injury."

Cease would be a great pickup for New York, but it doesn't sound like a trade is going to happen with the club this offseason. If the Yankees don't trade Cease to Seattle, maybe they could engage in conversations again ahead of the trade deadline.
