With third baseman Josh Donaldson's tenure with the Yankees likely coming to a close after the 2023 season, the team could look to replace him on the open market.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman linked Matt Chapman as a potential fit for the Yankees.

Chapman is set to become a free agent after the season is over, and would make sense for the Yankees, who will likely let Donaldson walk.

Chapman is off to a red hot start for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, leading the American League with 23 hits. He also has a .489 batting average and 1.2 offensive WAR.

In addition to his bat, Chapman is known as one of the best defensive third basemen in the league.

While Chapman appears to be a fit for the Yankees, Heyman called them one of the less-needy teams since the versatile DJ LeMahieu will still be under contract and can play third base.

By signing Chapman, the Yankees would be able to keep LeMahieu in a super utility role, where he plays all around the infield.

Chapman is arguably the best pending free agent that is not named Shohei Ohtani.

With Donaldson expected to be on the way out, the Yankees are a fit for Chapman and could lure him to the Bronx next winter.
