The New York Yankees are bringing back a familiar face to bolster their depth.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided, the Yankees are re-signing outfielder Greg Allen to a minor league deal. The contract includes an invite to spring training.

Allen, 30, spent 22 games with the Yankees in 2023, slashing .217/.333/.478 with a .812 OPS with one home run.

Allen appeared in 51 games in the minor leagues last season, where he hit .251 with a .759 OPS.

Across seven years in the big-leagues, in which he played for four different teams, Allen has hit .231 with a .640 OPS in 304 career games.

After adding a slew of outfielders this offseason in superstar Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo, the Yankees have a crowded outfield. This does not leave much room for opportunity for Allen, who will likely be used as a depth piece in the upper levels of the minor leagues.

If and when the Yankees lose an outfielder to injury, Allen could then be called upon to come up to the major leagues to serve as a bench player.
