Twins Sign Ex-Yankees Veteran Hurler After Up-And-Down Season

It sounds like one former member of the Yankees has found a new home

The Minnesota Twins reportedly landed a former member of the New York Yankees.

Minnesota is in an interesting spot. The Twins won 87 games last season and won the American League Central and are looking to retool the club as they look to take home another division title in 2024.

The Twins made a depth move Thursday and reportedly signed former St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Yankees pitcher Matt Bowman to add more big-league depth for the bullpen, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

"(Right-handed pitcher) Matt Bowman, who spent the past three seasons in the Yankees organization and made three appearances for New York last season, signed a Minor League deal with the Twins with an invite to Spring Training, per source," Feinsand said. "He’ll earn $925,000 if he reaches the Majors."

Bowman appeared in just three games at the big league level with the Yankees in 2023. In the span, he allowed four earned runs in four innings pitched. He spent the majority of the season with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and logged a 3.99 ERA in 49 appearances with a 58-to-30 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 58 2/3 innings pitched.

The 32-year-old was selected in the 13th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft and eventually made his big league debut with the Cardinals in 2016.

Bowman may not have spent much time at the big league level last season, but he has a career 4.13 ERA in five seasons. It wouldn't be too surprising to see him get a shot with Minnesota in 2024.
