Two-Time All-Star Could Be Option For Yankees To Add Third Base Depth

New York could use some more depth due to early injuries

The New York Yankees already are dealing with the injury bug.

Opening Day isn't even here yet, but the Yankees already have had multiple injury scares. The worst news for the Yankees so far in Spring Training certainly is the fact that the club will be without the services of 2023 American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole for at least one or two months.

He isn't the only All-Star who has been dealing with injuries, though. Superstar slugger Aaron Judge has dealt with an abdominal injury but has returned to the field and seems to be in a good spot.

New York super utility man DJ LeMahieu has been dealing with a bone bruise and at this point, it's unclear if he will be ready to go on Opening Day.

If LeMahieu isn't ready to open the season and misses time, there are options out there in free agency who could help provide more depth at third base. One player who could make a lot of sense and still is available is two-time All-Star Jean Segura.

Segura spent the 2023 season with the Miami Marlins and had a down year, but is a 12-year big league veteran who has had plenty of success. He is just 34 years old and is a career .281 hitter.

New York certainly improved its roster after the 2023 season came to an end, but injuries already are putting the 2024 campaign in question. The Yankees could use some more cheap, veteran depth and Segura certainly fits this description.
