Yankees Insiders Reportedly Hints All-Star Could Be On Way Out Of Town This Offseason

It sure sounds like one former Yankees All-Star will be playing elsewhere in 2024

The New York Yankees could see a lot of turnover this offseason.

New York struggled this season and finished with a disappointing 82-80 record despite entering the season with World Series aspirations. The Yankees will have some tough decisions to make this offseason and the club is sure to look different in 2024. One player who could be playing elsewhere next season is former All-Star pitcher Luis Severino, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty.

"The Yankees have seven unrestricted free agents this offseason," Kirschner and Kuty said. "Let’s quickly run through some predictions on who may or may not return next season. Luis Severino: Does not return."

Severino at one point was one of the best right-handed pitchers in baseball but has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons and hasn't quite looked like himself. The two-time All-Star will enter free agency this offseason and it wouldn't be surprising to see him sign elsewhere. Severino appeared in 19 games for the Yankees in 2023 and compiled a 6.65 ERA.

New York certainly has a need to add to its starting rotation, but likely will be looking elsewhere. The Yankees have been linked to some possible big-name hurlers -- like Orix Buffaloes star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Severino at one point was a star in New York and hopefully will be able to get back to that level of play soon but he likely has made his last appearance in a Yankees uniform.
