Yankees May Not Add Another Star Despite Gerrit Cole Injury News

It doesn't sound like New York will be landing another star any time soon

The New York Yankees will be without the services of their top pitcher for a little while.

Yankees star pitcher Gerrit Cole is expected to miss one-to-two months due to an elbow injury. Cole seems to have avoided the worst-case scenario after undergoing an MRI on his elbow, but the Yankees are in a tough spot.

New York has been linked to multiple hurlers to help fill the hole left by Cole. Superstar free agent Blake Snell and Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease have been the most talked about possible options.

While this is the case, landing either seems unlikely at this point, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

"Either way, the Yankees will lose Cole for a while," Martino said. "He was not recovering as expected from his spring training appearances, and the discomfort was serious enough to lead to the MRI. If the diagnosis of no ligament tear holds, Cole would almost certainly have to shut down for a while for rest and treatment. Any pitcher would then need at least the amount of time that he was shut down to build back up.

"Looking at the calendar, the current best scenario would have Cole missing a month or two -- but that, of course, will depend on how the rehab goes. Meanwhile, Cole’s injury has not inspired the Yankees to change their stance on signing Blake Snell. A trade for Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease is also unlikely."

If the Yankees could land either Snell or Cease, they certainly would help in a major way. While this is the case, it doesn't sound like either will be coming to New York any time soon.
