When the New York Yankees traded for Juan Soto, there was a sneaky part of that trade that could benefit the Yankees. Trent Grisham, a 27-year-old outfielder, might help New York in various roles this season.

With Jasson Dominguez injured, Giancarlo Stanton hardly playing the outfield, and other factors, Grisham could get decent playing time.

He likely won't appear in 153 games as he did with the San Diego Padres in 2023, but he can give the Yankees innings when needed and do so at an average level. That's been on display during Spring Training after struggling with the Padres over the last two seasons.

Grisham slashed .198/.315/.352 in 2023, a brutal stretch in a San Diego lineup that offered some of the best protection in baseball.

After his trade to New York, Grisham went back to his old swing that helped him make his MLB debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019. He said he had to redefine what makes him himself more than anything, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com.

Whether that swing helps him put his career back on track or not, Grisham is excited to be in the Bronx and play for a world-class organization.

"The way these guys treat players as an organization is second to none. I always heard about that around baseball."

The Yankees have long been said to be a top-tier organization from top to bottom and is somewhere players want to play.

It's exciting to think about the potential of Grisham for New York fans.

The short porch in right field should benefit him and he can make plays with the best of them in center field.

If he's at the top of his game, he makes the Yankees that much better.
