Yankees Reportedly Expected To Make Massive Offer To Star Pitcher This Offseason

New York reportedly could be preparing to massive a massive contract this offseason

The New York Yankees may end up making one of the biggest splashes in baseball this upcoming offseason.

New York has struggled this season but likely is just a solid move or two away from getting back to the postseason. The Yankees are loaded with talent and if the club could fill a few holes on the roster, could be World Series contenders in 2024. One of the biggest holes on the Yankees' roster certainly is the starting rotation.

The Yankees have ace Gerrit Cole and two-time All-Star Carlos Rodón both under contract next season but the club will need to add at least one or two more starters. One player that could make perfect sense and has been rumored to be a Yankees target is Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Yamamoto is just 25-years-old and likely will be one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason if he posted by the Buffaloes. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman recently traveled to Japan to personally scout Yamamoto and saw the young righty toss an extremely impressive no-hitter.

New York will have plenty of competition for Yamamoto this offseason with the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets widely expected to be heavily involved. The Yankees reportedly are prepared to offer the young ace a massive deal that even reportedly could "significantly" exceed the seven-year, $155 million deal New York gave Masahiro Tanaka, according to Yahoo Japan.

Yamamoto certainly would be worth a deal of that size as he's just 25-years-old and has a career 1.74 ERA across seven professional seasons with the Buffaloes. He hasn't had an ERA above 2.00 since 2020 and is a star in the making. Yankees fans certainly should be keeping an eye on the young star.
