Yankees Want To Bring Back Star Reliever After Impressive Season

It sounds like New York is looking into a reunion

The New York Yankees have had a great offseason so far but still could use another move or two.

New York has significantly improved the club but still needs to address the bullpen. A few of the Yankees' top arms from 2023 are free agents and it's unclear if they will be back in town in 2024.

One of New York's best bullpen options last season was Wandy Peralta. The veteran lefty was a star for New York out of the bullpen and logged a 2.83 ERA in 63 appearances with a 51-to-30 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 innings pitched.

He has been one of the most sought-after free-agent relievers this offseason but the Yankees arguably have shown the most interest. New York wants a reunion and is continuing to pursue one, according to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty.

"The Yankees have shown in recent years that if there's anything they know how to do well, it's building one of the best bullpens in the game," Kuty said. "They want Wandy Peralta to be part of that again, and they continue talking to the left-hander, but they haven't been able to find common ground, a person with knowledge of the team's personnel decisions said.

"Peralta was dealing with a left triceps issue late last year. Still, we think they'll figure out a way to bring back the veteran and clubhouse favorite."

If the Yankees could bring back the 32-year-old, it would be a great move. He has shined for the Yankees over the last two-plus seasons and could significantly help the club again in 2024.
