2023 NBA Draft: Is Victor Wembanyama the Best Prospect We've Ever Seen?

Derek Parker takes a look at Victor Wembanyama in the latest edition of his Heat Check series on YouTube.

The 2023 NBA Draft lottery is coming up on Tuesday, and one lucky team will find out they’ve landed generational prospect Victor Wembanyama.

But just how good is the French phenom that's taken the basketball world by storm in recent years? At 7-foot-4 with innate feel and a perimeter-adjacent game, is he the greatest basketball prospect we’ve ever seen?

Draft Digest’s Derek Parker takes at look at that question in the latest edition of his Heat Check series on YouTube:

Leading the LNB Pro A league, a top-eight basketball league on the planet, in points, rebounds and blocks at just 19-years-old, Wembanyama is certainly the best prospect we’ve seen since LeBron James.

And that's certainly no slight to plenty of good prospects we've seen over the last few decades: Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson, Cade Cunningham and more. But Wembanyama simply has tools at his disposal that few players have ever had.

The lottery will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16. Just three teams have a 14 percent chance and the top odds at landing Wembanyama: Detroit, Houston and San Antonio.

Charlotte has a 12.5 percent chance at landing his talents and Portland a 10.5 percent chance. The remaining teams all have less than a 10 percent chance, with the lowest being New Orleans at just half a percent.
