In this story:

Connecticut guard Jordan Hawkins has emerged as a 2023 NBA Draft riser with a strong sophomore campaign and subsequent national championship-winning run.

At 6-foot-5, Hawkins averaged 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 37 games for the Huskies. He shot 41 percent from the field, 39 percent from three on a whopping 7.6 attempts per game and 89 percent from the line.

Needless to say, Hawkins has plenty of 3-point prowess. But his innate feel for shooting on the fly gives him an edge in the shooting department.

The ability to shoot on the move is a close to unteachable skill. It’s hard enough to see strong percentages from outside in general. Much less doing so while flying off screens, in transition and other off-ball actions.

Hawkins has a truly special gift in that department.

He flies around the court and stays active nearly at all times. He is fully aware that even a minute change of pace, direction or a defender’s misstep can grant him the necessary space to get a shot off.

Hawkins has the full 3-point package at his disposal: side-steps, handoffs, transition buckets. On top of that, he’s got a few one or two-dribble counters in his bag to create space, and he doesn’t need much of it to knock shots down.

Simply put, he’s a day one movement shooter in the NBA. Teams will be able to run off-ball actions with him on opening night.

Hawkins other offensive skills, his on-ball creation, at-rim finishing and mid-range game need plenty of work. But he’s likely high on the board for any teams in need of an off-ball weapon.
