2023 NBA Draft: Victor Wembanyama Presumably Heads to San Antonio

In this story:
In what was the potentially the most important draft lottery in history, only one team would land the No. 1 overall pick and the ability to select French phenom Victor Wembanyama.
Entering the event, the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets each had a 14% chance of landing the generational prospect, tied for the highest odds of any team. While the Rockets and Pistons slid down the order as the lottery played out, the Spurs were the big winners of the event.
San Antonio officially landed the No. 1 pick, and will presumably take Wembanyama on June 22.
"It's going to be unbelievable," Spurs owner Peter J. Holt said Tuesday night. "Our future was already bright, now it's going to be through the moon. I'm a believer that good things happen to great people. We're surrounded by amazing people that try to be of service and help others and build things that are great. So you're going to attract some amazing things. That's what happened tonight."
This was the first time that San Antonio had landed the top pick since the Spurs drafted Tim Duncan with the No. 1 selection in the 1997 NBA Draft.
There's not a better system in the NBA for Wembanyama, who already has elite upside but will have the potential to truly reach his ceiling in San Antonio. At 7-foot-4 with the ability to do anything on the floor, the Spurs should take a huge step forward in the 2023-24 campaign.
