Victor Wembanyama, Brandon Miller Earn January Rookie of the Month

Two new rookies played their way into Rookie of the Month for January.

The 2023 NBA Draft was lauded as one of the best we've seen in a decade or so prior to draft night, and thus far, it's lived up to the hype.

This year’s NBA rookie class has already shown to have plenty of parity within it, no example being better than this month’s two award-winners being different than the last.

Here are the Draft Digest rookies of the month for January 2024:

Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs

Heralded as one of the best overall basketball prospects since LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama had tall shoes to fill coming into the NBA. And even his December stat line was enough to bear that weight.

But the 7-foot-4 phenom hit another gear in January.

In 14 games, he scored 24.0 points, grabbed 9.6 rebounds, dished 3.3 assists and blocked 3.3 shots per game, all in just 26.7 minutes per contest.

In short, he moonlighted as a Spurs superstar all throughout the month, making sure no one else in the West could come away with Rookie of the Month.

Brandon Miller, Charlotte Hornets

In the East, Brandon Miller had himself not an equal month, but incredibly good by most rookie standards.

In 13 games, he scored 16.0 points, grabbed 4.1 rebounds, had 2.4 assists and 0.8 stocks in 30.3 minutes plays.

Were it not for two towering 7-foot titans in Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren dominating rookie narratives, Miller would be regarded as one of the better frosh wings we’ve seen in awhile.

And his success with Charlotte specifically isn’t something to gloss over, either.
