Scoot Henderson Talked to Ron Holland About Joining Ignite: ‘Everything You Could Possibly Ask For’

After de-committing from Texas due to a coaching change, top basketball prospect Ron Holland had a big decision to make.
At 6-foot-8 with premier athleticism, Holland essentially had his pick of schools and professional organizations, including Arkansas, Arizona, Gonzaga, Kentucky, USC and more.
But it was a conversation with a recent top NBA draftee that ultimately could’ve swayed his decision. Scoot Henderson, the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, helped turn Holland to the G League Ignite.
Holland detailed it in a recent conversation with The Sporting News:
“After I had de-committed from Texas, my circle had told me to keep an open mind," Holland told TSN. "I had come to visit the G League and everything they were telling me when they were recruiting me, I came to see if it was true and it definitely was. And it was a lot more than what I was expecting."
“I definitely talked to Scoot [Henderson] a whole bunch about this because he was the most recent guy they had put in the league," Holland said of the 2023 No. 3 overall pick. "When I talked to him, he was saying everything you could possibly ask for, if [going to the NBA] is what you wanna do, they can supply you with.”
And thus far, the decision has been a great one. Holland looked superior in the G League Fall Invitational games versus Perth, pouring on 55 total points in two games with plenty of rebounds, assists, steals and more throughout.
Even more, the decision was made easier by the gobs of players the Ignite has sent to the NBA in the past few drafts, including Henderson, Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Dyson Daniels and more.
“I definitely thought this was the right path to take. Seeing what they did with Jalen Green and all those guys, how they put them in the draft, I was like, ‘this is something I might want to do,’” Holland said. "It’s a pro route, so what better way to teach you to get to the pros than the pro level of basketball?"
