Wemby Watch: A Clear Positive Impact

Over his last five games, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has been a +38 on the box score.

The San Antonio Spurs continue to get better as the season goes on, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're winning more games. With that in mind, they're slowly finding ways to leverage Victor Wembanyama in the right ways.

What has the generational talent done since our last Wemby Watch update, and what are his statistics to this point?

2023-24 Stats: 19.8 PPG | 10.1 RPG | 3.1 BPG | 1.1 SPG | 2.9 APG | XX% FG | XX% 3PT

Spurs Record: 7-33

While the Spurs did win two-straight games in the past week, they've since loss three in a row. Even then, Wembanyama has been a combined +38 on the box score. This speaks to his impact, especially when comparing his box plus/minus relative to how many points San Antonio has lost by.

What has been most impressive about the rookie's production is what he's been able to do in limited action. Wembanyama has put up ridiculous numbers — especially in the scoring department — but is hardly playing as much as he could be. Once he begins to play more minutes each night, his production will almost certainly scale even higher.

The NBA Rookie of the Year award is something Wembanyama will have a real chance of winning, even with how well Chet Holmgren has played in Oklahoma City. Especially as the offensive side of the ball continues to come around, the French center has become truly dominant.

In the upcoming week, Wembanyama and the Spurs will take on the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
