Wemby Watch: Carrying Momentum from Outstanding January Slate

After turning a corner in the month of January, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has continued that success into February.

The NBA All-Star break is approaching, which means we're nearing the final stretch of the 2023-24 campaign. The NBA Rookie of the Year race may come down to the wire, but for now Victor Wembanyama is the frontrunner.

The San Antonio Spurs rookie put together an absolutely phenomenal month of January, but has continued to be very impressive in February as well. What has the generational talent done since our last Wemby Watch update, and what are his statistics to this point?

Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs

2023-24 Stats: 20.4 PPG | 10.3 RPG | 3.1 BPG | 1.2 SPG | 3.2 APG | 46.4% FG | 30.8% 3PT

Spurs Record: 10-41

Early in the season, Wembanyama struggled from an efficiency standpoint because he was being asked to be the primary scoring option as a 19-year-old. Now 45 games into his career, that's no longer a tall task. On both ends of the floor, he's a proven playmaker. Not only is he scoring at a high rate, but the 7-foot-4 rookie is creating for himself and putting the ball on the floor to score those points.

Over the last week specifically, Wembanyama has found ways to impact winning even when his shot isn't falling. For example, he posted two games with 14 rebounds, a game with five blocks and three contests with two steals. In nearly every aspect of the game, Wembanyama is playing well beyond the way any first-year player should.

In the upcoming week ahead of NBA All-Star weekend, Wembanyama and the Spurs will take on the Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks.
