Wemby Watch: Making History Following the NBA All-Star Break

Since the break, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has taken his game to new heights.

The San Antonio Spurs still have the worst record in the Western Conference, but remain one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league. This is primarily due to rookie Victor Wembanyama, who had a fantastic start to his first NBA season, but has elevated his play since the NBA All-Star break.

Whether it's breaking records or becoming the youngest player to accomplish certain milestones, he's the type of player you have to watch every single time he takes the floor. At 7-foot-4 with superstar upside on both ends, we truly are watching the next face of the NBA blossom.

What has the generational talent done since our last Wemby Watch update, and what are his statistics to this point?

2023-24 Stats: 20.6 PPG | 10.2 RPG | 3.3 BPG | 1.3 SPG | 3.3 APG | 46.6% FG | 31.7% 3PT

Spurs Record: 11-48

As many remarkable performances as Wembanyama has put together this season — from a triple-double with blocks to a 38-point outing — he had his most historic game yet following the NBA All-Star break. In a contest against the Los Angeles Lakers, the French phenom logged the NBA’s 22nd ‘5×5’ stat line, producing 27 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks in 31 minutes. This made him the youngest player to achieve a 5×5 line since the NBA began tracking steals and blocks in the 1973-74 season.

Wembanyama had ridiculously high expectations entering his rookie season after being selected No. 1 overall and considered one of the best basketball prospects in history. He's been as good as anyone could have expected thus far, notching historic performances on a regular basis and also showing real improvement as the season goes on. The 20-year-old has proven he truly has the ceiling to be the greatest player of all-time when it's all said and done.

In the upcoming week, Wembanyama and the Spurs will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings.
