Wesley Cardet Jr.

Prospect Profile

Cardet Jr. is one of the more underrated players in the country given where he plays. A former four-star recruit, he started his college career at Samford, but then transferred to Chicago State after his freshman season.

He possesses great positional size and should be able to play off-ball guard or wing at the next level. He is comfortable with the ball in his hands, but isn’t best suited as a lead guard. While his jumper is improved — but needs further tweaks — Cardet is at his best when scoring as a driver. He’s extremely strong and has the wiggle that allows him to get to the rim with ease. Once he makes it to the rack, he can finish well with touch or power. The lower body strength is clear he uses it to his advantage when putting the ball on the floor.

While he boasted a 20.3% assist rate last season, Cardet can be turnover prone. In fact, for every assist he generated as a sophomore, he also produced one turnover. Playing smarter and scoring as efficiently as possible will be something that could really help his draft stock. For a player like Cardet, it’s all about showcasing a well-rounded game this season. There’s quite a few things he does well, but proving he can do even more to help an NBA team will be key.

After declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft, Cardet dropped out for at least one more college season. If he’s able to further refine his game this year and generate even more buzz, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to be the next hidden gem taken in the second round. Although he is older for a prospect, he has the positional size and upside to be worth a selection.
