Prospect Profile

One of the most fascinating breakout stories of this season has been Mogbo’s campaign at San Francisco. He’s the type of player who has needed time to develop his game and grow into the player he is physically today, but the hard work and patience have paid off. An incredibly productive player, he’s a walking double-double with tremendous skill.

Mogbo is currently in his fourth college season, but also with his fourth team in that span. He started his collegiate career at Independence Community College, then went to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. From there he played a season at Missouri State before landing at San Francisco for this breakout campaign in year four.

Although the 6-foot-8 forward is not a 3-point shooter at all, he plays a powerful game that allows him to be very effective inside the arc. He’s a much improved free throw shooter, which does leave some reason for optimism that one day he can space the floor. Mogbo is extremely effective as a scorer in the meantime given the majority of his shots are good looks closer to the basket. In fact, he’s one of the most efficient scorers in the country from a field goal percentage standpoint.

One of the things that makes Mogbo stand out at his size is the fact that he’s comfortable putting the ball on the deck and driving. He’s a strong finisher at the rim once he gets there and leverages his athleticism and explosiveness to dunk over defenders. He also has upside as a transition scorer, not only as a lob threat but also as someone who can handle the ball and push the break after pulling down a rebound.

Speaking of rebounding, this is where Mogbo is one of the most impressive in the country at his position. He cleans the glass well on both ends of the floor and generates many second-chance points for himself and his teammates by crashing the offensive boards specifically.

Mogbo is also a fantastic positional passer, which has been a part of his game that’s really emerged this season. He can catch in the mid-post and operate as a facilitator, and is great at finding cutters. He’s an accurate and crafty passer for his size and overall is just a smart player on the offensive end.

The advanced metrics jump off the page for Mogbo, as he is one of the top players in college basketball when it comes to statistics like Win Shares and PER. Simply put, he passes the eye test and also produces insane numbers on the court.

Mogbo has an NBA-ready body, but that hasn’t always been the case. He has grown both in size and frame significantly over the past few years. He was a skinny 5-foot-9 guard entering high school, but has grown nearly a foot since then and has learned and maintained many valuable skills along the way. After graduating high school without a single Division I offer, Mogbo now has the talent and resume to truly make an impact at the NBA level.
