Prospect Profile

Williams had a phenomenal freshman season at Nevada, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year. Now, he’s taken his talents to Texas Tech and has looked really good in the Big 12 during his second college season.

What’s been most impressive about Williams’ sophomore season has been the 3-point shooting. While he was reliable from beyond the arc as a freshman, he’s really proven he can make higher difficulty shots and knock down triples overall at a more efficient level now. At this point, it’s easy to see his 3-point shooting translating to the NBA level which is promising for a 6-foot-6 prospect.

Where he really separates himself from other wings across the country is his ability to pull down boards. Williams led Nevada in rebounds as a rookie and has emerged as one of the best positional rebounders in the country again this season. He can generate 10 rebounds on any given night and is a real double-double machine.

It would be nice to see more passing upside from Williams, but you can’t expect any prospect to be perfect. He does boast a solid frame which helps him defensively, but he still feels like a bit of a tweener. Will he be more of an undersized power forward at the next level, or can he develop more foot speed and defend in space and on the perimeter against strong and quick NBA wings? That’s one of the primary questions surrounding him moving forward.

The former four-star recruit played at Bishop Gorman in high school and competed in many high level events. He has a unique skillset given his size and position, which could be an advantage or a big question mark as teams evaluate his fit at the NBA level.
