Hornets Unveil "Late 90s" Classic Edition Uniforms

The jerseys harken back to the team's 1997-2002 seasons.

The Charlotte Hornets' 2023-24 season will feature a new Classic Edition uniform that throws it back to the team's second-generation pinstripe uniforms from 1997-2002, as the Hornets unveiled on Wednesday.

In a video introducing the new uniforms, Hornets star Lamelo Bell shoots some solo hoops at Charlotte's Spectrum Center, fresh from inking his five-year designated rookie max extension with the Hornets last month.

The new throwback uniform is just one part of the Hornets' 35th anniversary celebration of their inaugural 1988-89 run that's rolling out this season. The 2023-24 Classic Edition Hornet jersey is teal with multi-colored double pinstripes, the unmistakable "Charlotte" for the front wordmark, and the Jordan Brand "Jumpman" logo in its usual place on the right side of the chest. Purple-striped side panels adorn both the jersey and shorts, the shorts sporting a classic Hornets logo on the left thigh.

The Hornets will wear the Classic Edition uniforms for eight home games this season. Retail versions of the new jerseys will be available this fall. And if last season is any indication, we'll also see a new Hornets alternate Statement Edition jersey later this year, with both the Statement Edition and the Classic Edition joining the Association (home) and Icon (away) jerseys.

"We're pleased to introduce a new Classic Edition uniform to be worn as part of our celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the Charlotte Hornets inaugural season," Hornets President & Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield said in a press release on Wednesday. "Throughout our history, the Hornets have been recognized for fashionable uniform designs, and we know our fans will be excited to see the look that our team wore from 1997-2002 back on the court in Charlotte."
