Lakers News: LeBron James' Hoops Semi-Immortality Impressing Longtime LA Legend

As well it should be.
In this story:

19-time All-Star Los Angeles Lakers small forward LeBron James should not be nearly this amazing at NBA basketball this late into his career. His physical gifts and insane preparation make him one of the best-preserved players (okay, fine, the single-best-preserved player) in the history of the game.

He's heading into his 21st season, after breaking Laker legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time regular season scoring mark and averaging 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks a night on a 43-39 Los Angeles team that made it to the Western Conference Finals thanks largely to his and Anthony Davis' combined efforts.

James has been so great, for so long, that he is even blowing the minds of other long-lasting Laker greats.

In a new chat with Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson for his Scoop B Selects show (via YouTube Selects), three-time Lakers champion combo forward A.C. Green, whose NBA career endeared for a then-long 16 seasons from 1985-2001, explained how James' shocking ability to remain this good heading into his third pro decade impresses even Green.

"I am amazed at what LeBron can do," Green conceded. I was talking with numerous friends and colleagues just the fact that he’s playing at that level for his WHOLE career. He came in with expectations like Victor [Wembanyama] this year -- but he’s [LeBron] come in with those expectations and all of the sudden he’s lived up to them in his rookie year and he’s sustained it throughout and the thing is that now that he’s coming to the end of a career, his game is not coming to an end of his productivity. But at the same time I’m also happy that Rob Pelinka is bringing the resources around to help lighten the load a little bit so now that he feels like that he has to carry that torch or baton every single game. Gotta keep him and AD and the other guys healthy but the nucleus is starting to get right."

Thanks to Pelinka's still personnel maneuvering this summer, the Lakers seem well-equipped to once again be one of the better clubs in the West this year -- assuming that James can replicate his year-20 output in year-21, of course.
