Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving was diagnosed with a facial fracture earlier today following an elbow he took to the face yesterday at practice.

Irving is no stranger to injuries all throughout his NBA career, and a facial fracture is one of the many injuries the point guard has suffered throughout his tenure in the league.

The official status of Irving is day-to-day, and the Nets brass does not seem overly considered about the status of their point guard as preparations for the upcoming season get into full swing.

Irving also suffered a facial fracture in November of 2017 when he was a member of the Boston Celtics. At that time, Irving was quoted as saying that he did not find the mask comfortable, and that it hindered his play at times.

"It's just a piece of plastic on your face. It's the difference of having something over your face. It's almost like having somewhat foggy blinders on," Irving said back in 2017.

Irving was forced to wear the mask for two weeks back in 2017, and also had to don a mask in 2012 when he had a broken jaw.

A player like Irving, who is a floor general, needs to have a full view of the court in order to make the best basketball play possible. This would understandably be very difficult to do if Irving was forced to wear a mask when the season officially gets under way.

Luckily for the Nets point guard, he has four weeks for his facial fracture to heal so that he could enter the season without any impediments whatsoever.

The Nets have high expectations entering this season after making a splash in July during NBA Free Agency. While the Nets highest profile signing, Kevin Durant, is recovering from a Torn Achilles, it is paramount for Irving to stay on the court for the already under-manned Brooklyn team. This is the only way the Nets can excel this season, and try to make their mark in the wide open Eastern Conference.

Nets fans hope that this injury is just a blip on the radar for the star point guard, and not another injury-plagued season for Irving that will cause the team to woefully under perform during their first year of a grand experiment in the borough of Brooklyn.
