"Pretty special and more to come" - Nets players celebrate Kevin Ollie's first HC win
The entire Brooklyn Nets celebrated with joy and excitement as Kevin Ollie picked up his first-ever win as a head coach in the team's 111-86 romp over the Memphis Grizzlies. After the first two games stuffed with hardship and losses, the third time held the charm for the interim mentor to ultimately land himself in the coaching scenes of the NBA.
A relieving result to celebrate Ollie's first win as coach
Right after the game, Nets players gladly poured a victorious shower toward Ollie to mark his first coaching milestone in the NBA. Mikal Bridges, who dropped 11 points and 3 boards, is nothing but happy that they were able to secure the dub in a collective effort and help the interim coach to pocket his first victory.
“We’re so excited for him,” he said. “I know it's been tough, and from being in that position right now, we're just happy that we got the win for him. We got a lot of water-soaked. Those were fun.”
A tremendous win, but the job's not done
As he led the Nets against the Grizzlies with a game-high 18 markers, Dennis Schroder stands the happiest to witness Ollie savoring his first head coaching win.
But in the wake of the little celebration, the German veteran emphasized that the campaign continues to roll for them as they have a much bigger goal to chase.
“It’s special. It’s 30 coaches in the league, and he’s one of them. Got his first win. That’s pretty special, and more to come, hopefully this season. But that was special for him,” said Schroder. “But we’ve got to move forward now. Got to enjoy tonight and then tomorrow against a good team in Orlando.”
