Nuggets Coach's Strong Statement on Nikola Jokic Winning MVP

Nikola Jokic should be the favorite to win MVP again.

Nikola Jokic is such a good basketball player, that he's somehow made winning the MVP a controversial subject again. Every year, it feels like Jokic should win the award, but this year he's looking to be the favorite again.

Nuggets head coach Michael Malone was asked about Jokic winning the MVP by Ryan Blackburn, where Malone gave an incredibly passionate statement.

"I don't know if I can put that into words at what his greatness means to every team," Malone said. "Obviously, to your point, I think he has a good chance hopefully of winning his 3rd MVP, and the best part about it - that's not his motivation. When he gets up in the morning... he's not doing it for the individual accolades and recognition. He's doing it for the collective to win and hopefully win another championship. That's what he's all about."

When it comes to this season in particular, Malone believes Jokic has put the Nuggets on an even greater trajectory than their championship season last season. The Nuggets already have 54 wins this season, compared to their 53 wins last season.

"We wouldn't have 54 wins, which is more than we had last year with four to go, if it wasn't for his greatness, and efficiency, and his effect every single night... That is what I marvel at, most importantly with Nikola as a player. Just the consistent greatness and how he finds ways to every single night, no matter who is available around him, to bring that level of excellence every night. Basically, put that team on his back and make each and every one of his teammates that much better."

It remains to be seen whether or not the Denver Nuggets will have a better season than last year, but they're clearly on the right path again.
