Video: Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving changes direction 5 times in 8 seconds to juke Wizards
Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving unleashed a series of vicious crossover dribbles and change of direction moves to create a lay-up against the Wizards during Cleveland's 103-96 overtime win at Washington on Saturday night.
The sequence begins as Irving brings the ball across halfcourt with Glen Rice Jr. shadowing him. Irving slams on the brakes and goes with the right-to-left dribble behind his back to generate a little breathing room, before going behind his back again left-to-right to start an attack off the dribble. He then uses a screen from Earl Clark near the right angle before going behind his back from right to left again to pull Rice away out towards halfcourt.
Irving's brief retreat was followed up with another left-to-right crossover behind his back, totally losing Rice in the process and creating a true path to the basket. Jan Vesely tries to slide over to cut off Irving, a hopeless endeavor, and the 2012 Rookie of the Year blew by him with the right-to-left crossover, taking two steps into the paint before lofting up a right-handed floating lay-up over Nene.
By my count, Cleveland's All-Star point guard changed directions five times in the eight seconds between the 6:12 mark and the 6:04 mark of the fourth quarter, when his basket swished through.
Add this to the growing catalog of Kyrie Irving's Sensational Dribbling Displays, which also includes a "Shammgod Crossover" at a pro-am game this summer and a circus against the Sixers back in October.
Irving finished with a game-high 41 points (on 14-for-28 shooting), five assists and four rebounds in 42 minutes. Tristan Thompson added 15 points (on 6-for-11 shooting) and 12 rebounds for Cleveland.
Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 28 points (on 11-for-25 shooting) and four rebounds. Nene added 24 points (on 9-for-16 shooting) and seven rebounds in a losing effort.
Cleveland improved to 4-7 with the win; Washington dropped to 2-7 with the loss.Hat tip: Eye On Basketball | Video via YouTube user HardwoodParoxysm09
