Devin Booker Off to Hot Start to Begin Season

Phoenix Suns SG Devin Booker continues to impress during the early portions of the season.

The Phoenix Suns have come out to a scorching 7-2 record and have looked impressive despite some setbacks. This is the Suns' third-best start to the season through nine games in franchise history.

The Suns sit atop the Western Conference standings by half a game to a surprising Utah Jazz team. Great individual efforts have been present through the first stretch of basketball, but nobody has looked sharper than SG Devin Booker.

The Suns franchise player, of whom the Suns have drafted, developed and built around since that fateful No. 13 overall pick in 2015, has been nothing short of terrific in opening stretch of play Booker has proved time and time again why his pick at 13th has had one of the greatest draft slot values in recent NBA drafts.

This past offseason has certainly been the most eventful offseasons in Suns franchise history. The drama was well documented, but Devin Booker has remained focused. Booker has averaged 27 PTS and 5 AST on 48% on field goals and 35% on 3 pointers.

The Suns have sizzled off to a 6-1 home record to begin the year. Booker has been the team's spark plug offensively, feeding off the energy inside the arena and focusing his game on the details.

After Saturday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, which saw the Suns cruise to a 20 point victory, Booker spoke to the media about his attention to detail saying, "That is where it all starts, then just energy in general. We came in ready to play, came in locked in on all cylinders."

Booker finished the night with a team high 24 points and although Booker was 2-7 on 3-pointers, his 2 pushed him closer to the 1,000 benchmark. Sitting at 988, Booker needs just two more 3-pointers to join Steve Nash as the only Suns to make 1,000 threes.

On a night which saw the Suns swat away 14 shots, Booker added two of his own. The stat that might impress NBA fans the most is Booker actually leads the entire league in plus minus (+/-).

A stat that takes into consideration a players offensive and defensive role while on the floor, plus minus essentially shows how much a player contributes to their team in terms of points.

Devin Booker's start to the season has been phenomenal for the Suns. It terms of the rest of the league, Booker ranks with the likes of backcourts like Steph Curry, Luka Doncic and Ja Morant in terms of scoring. If Booker continues this pace, expect a 4th All-Star game appearance from one of the hottest scorers in the league.
