Cam Johnson to Have Surgery on Meniscus Tear

Phoenix Suns PF Cam Johnson will have surgery, as announced by the team on Sunday.

Phoenix Suns PF Cam Johnson will undergo surgery for his torn meniscus in his right knee, according to the team.

Johnson, who emerged as a full-time starter just this season, injured himself in the early stages of Friday night's loss to Portland.

There is currently no timetable for his return.

The Arizona Republic's Duane Rankin reported Johnson was spotted in crutches leaving the arena both Friday and Saturday night.

Early Saturday, The Athletic's Shams Charania initially reported the team feared he tore something. Monty Williams addressed reporters before the 102-82 win over Portland and didn't offer much.

"He's a starter for us, so it's always it's a tough blow just to see a guy not be in the lineup, that kind of thing. But that happens throughout the season, you just have to make your adjustments," Williams said.

After the win, Devin Booker chimed in by saying, “I mean it is really tough, obviously most for him. We are here with him for whatever he needs, he is going to be around the team. We say family every time we break it down and that is the situation we are in.”

This comes at a very unfortunate time for Johnson, as he was seeking a large contract extension as a restricted free agent next offseason. He reportedly turned down a four-year, $60 million deal from Phoenix.

Torrey Craig has filled those starting shoes, finishing with five points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal on Saturday. Dario Saric played 21 points and scored nine points with nine rebounds.
