Warriors Owner Reveals Reason for Trading Jordan Poole

Joe Lacob got very honest about trading Jordan Poole.

It's been roughly a month, but it still doesn't feel quite real that the Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole. He's only 24 years old, helped the team win an NBA Championship in 2022, and now he's a member of the Washington Wizards. Warriors owner Joe Lacob gave some insight as to why the decision happened.

In an interview with Madeline Kenney of the Bay Area News Group, Joe Lacob gave some details as to why the Warriors traded Jordan Poole for Chris Paul.

“We had to change something,” Lacob said. “While it’s a short-term move, Chris Paul is a fabulous Hall of Famer who will I think certainly help our second unit, help our first unit if he plays there, wherever he plays, he’s a tremendous guy.”

In Lacob's eyes, the Warriors had to move into a win-now situation and move past Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole. They felt their window with Steph Curry required a move to accelerate the plan, and unfortunately required trading Jordan Poole.

“We can be good for several years, not just one, but we definitely want to win,” Lacob said. “We’re doing everything we can. We’re gonna have a huge payroll this year, the biggest in the history of the NBA, and we’re trying to win. I can’t try any harder, we’re trying everything we can.”

It seems pretty clear by now that Jordan Poole and Draymond Green never truly got over their punch. The evidence was made even clearer when Poole's family began arguing with Draymond on social media just last week. Unfortunately for Poole, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson will always pick Draymond Green's side in that situation, and that's exactly what happened.
