GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis and his top backup Vance McDonald were inactive for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Davis missed practice all of last week with an ankle injury. McDonald has a knee injury. Both had been listed as questionable. Third-stringer Derek Carrier moved into San Francisco's starting tight end spot.

Two other San Francisco starters were inactive - right tackle Anthony Davis (hamstring) and cornerback Tramaine Brock (toe). Jonathan Martin replaced Davis, Perrish Cox Brock.

As expected, Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer was inactive with a nerve problem in his throwing shoulder. Punter Dave Zastudil missed his second straight game with a sore groin.

Drew Stanton started for Palmer for the second week in a row. Recently re-signed Drew Butler was the Cardinals' punter.
